Remember Your School Days?

Let's take a trip down memory lane - back to your early school years, primary school, 3rd or 4th grade - you surely also tried that "experiment" with a plastic yogurt cup, where you placed a piece of cotton wool, arranged beans or peas on it, poured a little water over it, and then waited and competed to see whose first green sprout would appear first. Do you remember? Then you'll surely agree that seed sprouting isn't just a trend from the last few years - we've known this technique for many decades. However, we've only recently developed a real passion for it.

Sprouts

Don't think that the love of sprouts is only for vegetarians - quite the opposite! Not only do they contain an enormous amount of vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and enzymes, they also have detoxifying effects and, unlike legumes, don't cause bloating. Children can consume them from the age of 1.

They're perfect for all kinds of dishes - you'll find several tips in this article too.

The only disadvantage is that sprouting takes several days and then they must be consumed quickly.

We'll Equip You Right!

What will you need? The foundation is getting a quality sprouting tray. Ours is three-tiered with a special ventilation and irrigation channel system. An essential part of your equipment must also be seeds - the most popular are: cress, broccoli, lentils, or the slightly more exotic alfalfa seeds with a refreshing tangy taste. However, you can sprout almost anything - it just depends on your taste.

In short: Rinse the seeds, soak them to activate, then spread them in a sprouting tray and rinse regularly until a small root appears – usually after a few days. Sprouts taste best freshly sprouted; in the fridge they keep 1-2 weeks and should be rinsed before use. Children can eat them from age 1.

Sprouting

So how do you proceed? Rinse the seeds under clean water, spread them in a bowl and then you need to "activate" individual seeds - pour water over them, place a lid on the bowl and put it on the windowsill and check regularly. Rinse the seeds regularly with water into the upper bowl. The tastiest sprouts are freshly sprouted - you can recognize them by a small root emerging from the seed. You can store sprouted seeds in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks, but rinse them with water before use.

A Few Kitchen Recipes

Tip 3:

The popular yogurt dip can be even tastier - just blend the sprouts in yogurt, then drizzle with lime, add salt, pepper, or honey to taste. You can serve it with meat or baked potatoes, for example.

Tip 4:

Chicken tortilla with a twist - heat up the tortilla (in a pan or microwave), then spread your favorite dip or sauce on it, add fried chicken pieces, corn, tomatoes, grated cheese, and top it all with sprouts. Wrap it up properly and enjoy!
