Floral oils in stock
Floral essential oils have a full, often sweet and long-lasting scent. They are among the most popular ingredients for homemade cosmetics and add softness and depth to blends. All of them belong to the Pěstík BIO oil range in 10 ml bottles, bottled in the Czech Republic. For each oil we state the scent intensity and the part of the plant used. Our range includes these floral scents:
- BIO Lavender – a sweetly herbal and floral scent of medium intensity, from the flowers of Lavandula angustifolia grown organically in France.
- BIO Ylang ylang – sweet, exotic and full, medium intensity.
- BIO Geranium – distinctive, freshly rosy with a green note.
- BIO Pink Geranium – a rosier and sweeter variety of geranium, medium intensity.
- BIO Neroli – a delicate blossom scent that combines citrus and floral character.
- BIO Rose – a delicate, classic rose scent.
- BIO Magnolia – delicate, light and sweetly floral.
- BIO Chamomile – a delicate, herbal and floral scent with a sweetish note.
- BIO Saffron – a very intense, floral and spicy scent.
Floral oils such as calendula or monoi, which are prepared as gentle carrier oils, can be found in the Carrier oils category. They serve as a base, not as a concentrated scent.
How oils are obtained from flowers
Flowers contain only small amounts of aromatic substances, so a large quantity of raw material is needed for a single millilitre of oil. The most common method is steam distillation: steam passes through the flowers, releases the aromatic substances, and after cooling the oil separates from the water. Some very delicate flowers are also processed using other methods, because heat would alter their scent. We state the part of the plant used for every product.
Lavender as a versatile base
If you are new to floral oils, lavender is the easiest choice. Its scent is clean and sweetly herbal and it gets along well with citrus, wood, resins and other flowers. In blends it "rounds off" sharper notes and works well as a base to which you gradually add other scents. It is also popular in sprays for laundry and curtains: add a few drops to a spray bottle with distilled water and shake before use.
Scent intensity
Floral oils vary considerably in intensity. Delicate oils such as rose, magnolia, neroli or chamomile are suitable where you want a subtle scent, or as an addition to a blend. Lavender, ylang ylang and pink geranium are of medium intensity. The distinctive geranium and the very intense saffron can easily dominate a blend, so add them drop by drop.
Scent pairings
Floral oils complement each other well and also go with other scent families:
- with citrus – lavender with orange, ylang ylang with bergamot,
- with woody oils – rose or geranium with Himalayan cedarwood,
- with resinous oils – lavender or magnolia with frankincense,
- with spices – ylang ylang with a drop of cardamom.
To start, try two oils in a ratio of roughly two to one, using less of the more intense one. You will find more scents for your diffuser in the essential oils for diffusers category.
For diffusers and aroma lamps
Floral oils are long-lasting, so in a diffuser or aroma lamp you need fewer drops than with citrus oils. The number of drops for a diffuser depends on its instructions; for an aroma lamp, 2–4 drops are usually enough. You can soften distinctive floral scents with a citrus oil, which gives them lightness.
For cosmetics and soaps
Floral oils are popular in homemade massage oils, body creams, balms, bath salts and soaps. Always add them to a base, for example a carrier oil, butter or soap base, and keep the concentration low, as a guide 1–2 % for body products and less for facial products. Add the oil to soap only at the end, when the mass is cooling, so that the scent does not evaporate unnecessarily. For a bath, first mix the oil into a spoonful of cream, honey or salt with an emulsifier.
When making cosmetics, bear in mind that delicate floral oils such as rose or magnolia can get lost in the finished product next to more distinctive ingredients. That is why the more long-lasting lavender, geranium or ylang ylang are often chosen for soaps, while delicate oils come into their own in body oils and balms.
Safety
- Never apply undiluted oil to the skin, always use it in a base. Before first use, test the blend on a small area.
- Not intended for internal use; protect eyes and mucous membranes.
- Keep out of the reach of children. For children and pregnant or breastfeeding women, use only after consulting a specialist.
- Cats break down essential oils poorly, so do not run a diffuser or aroma lamp in a room the cat cannot leave. With other animals, scent only briefly, with ventilation and with the option to leave.
- Store tightly closed in a cool, dark place.
You will find our full range in the Essential oils category.
Frequently asked questions
Which floral oils are the most delicate?
Rose, magnolia, neroli and chamomile, for example, have a delicate intensity. Geranium is more distinctive, and saffron is very intense.
Why are oils from flowers rarer?
Flowers contain only small amounts of aromatic substances, so a large quantity of raw material is needed to produce the oil.
Can I add a floral oil to soap?
Yes. Add it to the soap base only at the end, when it is cooling, and keep the concentration low according to the recipe.
What can floral oils be combined with?
They go well with citrus, woody and resinous oils, and in moderation with spices too. Use less of the more intense oil in a blend.
What is the difference between a floral essential oil and a carrier oil?
An essential oil is a concentrated scent used drop by drop. Floral carrier oils, such as calendula, are a gentle base for care and dilution.
