Aloe microstigma - Aloe microstigma - 6 seeds

Aloes are drought-loving to succulent fleshy-leaved plants with thick, often variously thorny-toothed leaves along the edges. The leaves of some species contain secretory cells producing juice. They form a basal rosette of leaves, which can develop on a stem in older plants.

Aloe microstigma originates from South Africa, where it grows on flat, steep, rocky slopes. This very attractive medium-sized aloe reaches heights of up to 70 cm. Its rosettes are thorny and grow up to 50 cm wide. The leaves reach lengths of up to 40 cm. Young leaves stand out with white dots, making this aloe very attractive. The plant is primarily grown as a container plant, indoor plant.

How to Grow Aloe

  • Requires light, well-draining soil and plenty of light. Low temperatures and too much water are harmful. Aloe thrives best on a windowsill or other well-lit location. The ideal temperature for cultivation is around 25°C. In winter, keep it in a cooler place (temperature 15 - 18°C). Tolerates dry air. The plant needs repotting every two to three years.

  • Sow seeds in a substrate composed of 50:50 peat and sand. Gently press the seeds on the surface of the seed tray. Water from below. Maintain a constant temperature of 21°C. Sow in spring.

  • Requires well-draining, gravelly substrate that should dry out well. Usually, a soil mixture is used consisting of compost, leaf mould and sand in a 1:1:1 ratio.

  • Plants should be fertilized once every 14 days with special mineral fertilizers, preferably phosphorus-based.

  • Does not suffer from diseases and pests. However, especially in winter months, if the substrate is not well dried out, root rot and plant death can occur. Water moderately, minimally in winter months.
