Peanut: Plant appearance description

The peanut is an annual plant that typically grows to a height of 30 to 50 cm. The plants have a branched and spreading growth habit with thin stems. The leaves are alternate, petiolate with prominent veining and have a triangular shape. Peanut flowers are small and yellow. The fruits, called peanuts, develop underground in small pods. After ripening, the underground pod is dug up and typically contains 2 to 4 peanuts. The appearance of the peanut plant is rather inconspicuous, but its fruits are valued for their significant nutritional properties, especially their high protein content, healthy fats and other nutrients, which have made them a globally important crop.

How to grow peanuts?

1. Seed preparation: soak the seeds in water for 12-24 hours to soften them and speed up germination.

2. Soil preparation: choose well-draining, light soil rich in nutrients.

3. Sowing seeds: carefully sow the seeds into the soil, cover them with a layer of soil and water.

4. Seed germination: keep the soil moist, but don't overwater. Peanuts will germinate in approximately 1-2 weeks.

5. Plant care: keep the soil consistently moist and remove weeds. Seedlings need plenty of sunlight.

6. Protection from cold: peanuts are sensitive to frost, so remember to protect them from cold weather.

7. Harvesting: peanut fruits develop underground, so the plants need to be carefully dug up when the fruits are ripe.
