Lemon eucalyptus is a species of eucalyptus native to Australia and known for its lemon scent. Its leaves contain essential oil with high citronellal content, a substance used in cosmetics and repellent production due to its insect-repelling effects, especially against mosquitoes. This eucalyptus species also has aromatic leaves and is valued for its scent. Essential oil from lemon eucalyptus can be used in aromatherapy, inhalations, or massages.

Lemon eucalyptus can grow up to 40 metres tall, making it one of the larger trees. The leaves of lemon eucalyptus have a characteristic elongated shape and light green colour. They are quite large, reaching lengths of up to 30 cm, and have a distinctive lemon scent, which is also the fundamental characteristic of this eucalyptus species. The flowers of lemon eucalyptus are white to cream-coloured and arranged in inflorescences. The flowers are honey-bearing and attract bees and other pollinators.
Lemon eucalyptus is known not only for its appearance but also for its distinctive lemon scent that emanates from the leaves and is characteristic of this tree species. Thanks to its properties, it is often used in landscaping, essential oil production, and also as a natural insect repellent.

1. Seed Preparation: before planting, you can soak the seeds in lukewarm water for several hours or overnight to speed up germination. It is usually not recommended to stratify seeds (expose to cold) as with some other eucalyptus species.
2. Growing Medium Preparation: use a well-draining growing medium, such as a mixture of garden soil, perlite, and peat. A substrate designed for seedlings is also suitable.
3. Sowing Seeds: plant the seeds in a container or small pot to a depth of approximately 2-3 times the seed size. Cover them with a thin layer of substrate.
4. Watering and Humidity: keep the substrate moist but not waterlogged. You can cover the container with a transparent plastic cover or glass to create greenhouse conditions and maintain humidity. Once the seeds begin to germinate, remove the cover so the plants have more air.
5. Light and Temperature: plants need sufficient light for healthy growth. Place them in a bright spot, ideally in direct sunlight, but protect them from direct midday sun. The temperature should be mild and stable, ideally around 20-25°C.
6. Transplanting: once the seedlings are sufficiently strong, you can transplant them into larger pots. Be careful not to damage the roots.
7. Plant Care: keep the substrate consistently slightly moist and monitor the growth and condition of the plants. Regularly check whether pests or diseases are present on the plants.
8. Garden Planting: when the plants are sufficiently large and strong, you can transplant them to the garden. Choose a well-shaded location with well-draining soil.
