Pink Pepper Tree - Schinus molle - 6 Seeds

The pink pepper tree is a medium-sized tree originating from South America. It belongs to the Anacardiaceae family and is known for its distinctive red fruits, which visually resemble small peppercorns. The name "pink pepper tree" is derived from the similarity of the fruits to peppercorns, although the pink pepper tree is not related to true pepper, which comes from black pepper (Piper nigrum). This tree is renowned for its decorative value and aromatic properties.

The pink pepper tree is a popular addition to landscape architecture thanks to its drought resistance and ability to tolerate a wide range of climatic conditions. Its medium size allows cultivation in various environments, from gardens to public parks. The tree's unmistakable appearance and the aroma of its red berries make it an excellent choice for anyone looking for a more exotic plant for their garden.

Pink Pepper Tree: Plant Appearance Description

The pink pepper tree is a medium-sized tree with a distinctive appearance. It grows to a height of 8-15 meters and, depending on growing conditions, can have a pyramidal or spreading crown. The leaves of the pink pepper tree have a feathery structure. This means they consist of several paired leaflets that are approximately 5-10 cm long. The leaves have a fresh green color and are smooth on the surface. The flowers of the pink pepper tree are small and have a white to yellow color. They bloom in May and June and are very striking in appearance.

The most distinctive feature of this plant is its fruits. These are small, red, round berries that resemble small peppercorns. These fruits have a strong and pleasant spicy fragrance. The pink pepper tree is a popular garden element not only for its fruits but also for its aesthetic leaves and overall appearance.

How to Grow Pink Pepper Tree?

1. Seed stratification: the pink pepper tree has a natural dormancy period, which means the seeds must undergo stratification before they wake from their dormant state and begin to germinate. Therefore, place the seeds in a moist environment (for example, between moistened paper towels) and put them in a closed container or bag. Then let the seeds stratify in the refrigerator for 4 to 6 weeks.

2. Growing space preparation: choose a well-draining and slightly moist substrate for growing in pots. The pink pepper tree prefers well-draining soil.

3. Sowing seeds: after stratification, remove the seeds from the refrigerator and gently sprinkle them on the substrate surface. Cover them with only a thin layer of substrate. Seeds do not need to be sown too deep.

4. Watering: keep the substrate moist, but not too wet. Don't overwater to prevent seed rot.

5. Location: place the container with sown seeds in a location with sufficient light, but protected from direct sunlight.

6. Germination: germination can take several weeks to months. After germination, ensure seedlings receive enough light and don't expose them to low temperatures.

7. Seedling care: once the plants have sufficiently developed and grown, you can transplant them into larger pots or into outdoor soil (if the weather is warm). Provide them with enough water and gradually increase their exposure to sunlight.
