Roundup - Total Herbicide That Safely Destroys Everything Green...

What is Roundup and How Does It Work?

Roundup is one of the most well-known total herbicides in the world, widely used by both professional gardeners and hobby growers. Its active ingredient is glyphosate, which acts systemically - it penetrates through the leaves and is transported throughout the entire plant, including the roots. This ensures complete destruction of unwanted vegetation.

The herbicide works by blocking the production of essential amino acids that plants need for growth. Within a few days of application, you'll notice the first signs of effectiveness - yellowing and wilting of leaves. Complete destruction of weeds usually occurs within 1-3 weeks, depending on the type of plant and weather conditions.

Where and When to Use Roundup

Roundup is ideal for situations where you need to eliminate all vegetation in a given area:

  • Garden path preparation - before laying paving or gravel
  • Clearing overgrown areas - prior to establishing new lawns or beds
  • Weed control around fences and buildings
  • Renovation of old lawns - complete removal before new seeding
  • Maintenance of non-cultivated areas - driveways, industrial areas

The best time for application is during the active growth period of plants, typically from spring to early autumn. Temperature should be above 10°C and rain shouldn't be expected for at least 6 hours after application.

Safe Application and Dosage

Although Roundup is relatively safe when used correctly, it's important to follow certain rules:

Application Instructions:

  • Apply on a calm day without wind to prevent drift onto desirable plants
  • Use protective equipment - gloves, goggles, and long clothing
  • Dilute according to manufacturer's instructions (typically 20-40 ml per 1 liter of water)
  • Apply evenly to green parts of plants until thoroughly wetted
  • Keep children and pets away from treated areas until completely dry

Important: What Roundup Doesn't Destroy

Roundup only works on green, actively growing plants. It has no effect on seeds in the soil or plant roots that haven't yet sprouted. It also doesn't act through the soil - you can safely sow or plant new vegetation approximately 7 days after application.

Roundup Alternatives for Organic Gardening

If you prefer ecological approaches, there are several alternatives to chemical herbicides:

  • Vinegar solution (20% acetic acid) - works on young weeds
  • Boiling water - effective for paths and paving
  • Mulching - prevention through covering soil with organic material
  • Manual removal - most ecological but labor-intensive method
  • Flame weeding - thermal destruction of weeds

Environmental and Health Aspects

The use of glyphosate is subject to ongoing debate. While official authorities like the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) consider it safe when used correctly, some studies point to potential risks. Therefore, it's important to:

  • Minimize herbicide use and use it only when necessary
  • Strictly adhere to recommended dosages
  • Never apply near water sources
  • Consider ecological alternatives for smaller areas
  • Store the product safely away from children and animals

Conclusion: Roundup as an Effective Tool

Roundup is an effective solution for quick elimination of unwanted vegetation in larger areas. When used correctly and responsibly, it's a safe tool that can save you many hours of manual work. However, always consider whether there isn't a more ecological alternative for your specific situation, and if you do decide to use a chemical herbicide, follow all safety instructions and dosage recommendations.

In short: Roundup is a total herbicide based on glyphosate, which is absorbed through the leaves and moves through the whole plant down to the roots. Apply it on a dry, calm day at 12–25 °C with no rain expected for 6 hours. Weeds yellow and dry out within 1–3 weeks; you can sow or plant again after about 7 days.

Selective herbicides only kill a specific group of plants for which they are designed. However, there are many places in the garden where it is necessary to eliminate all green vegetation at once. This is where total herbicides come into play, which can deal with all green plants.

Total herbicides are most commonly used to remove greenery growing between paving slabs on terraces, on pavements and on driveways. They are also useful for clearing larger areas before new planting.

Total Herbicide

Total herbicides, unlike their selective counterparts, are designed to kill all greenery, making no distinction between monocotyledonous or dicotyledonous plants. Total herbicides must therefore not be used to kill weeds in ornamental lawns, as this would result in their destruction. If you want to be sure of choosing an effective and safe total herbicide, choose Roundup, a product proven by many years of practical use.

Roundup

The total herbicide Roundup Classic is a professional product designed for weed control. It was originally developed for use in large-scale agriculture.

Over time, Roundup has become the most sought-after herbicide in the world and has also spread among small-scale growers. Today, they have the opportunity to use the same advanced weed control technologies as commercial entities.

The herbicidal product Roundup Classic is, thanks to many years of refinement, one of the most effective herbicides in the world and, when safety instructions are followed, one of the safest.

Roundup acts on plants systemically from within. After application, it is absorbed by the plant leaves and then penetrates the entire plant through the sap system, from roots to growing tip. Plants absorb Roundup very quickly.

The advantage of Roundup is its deactivation upon contact with soil and rapid decomposition by soil microorganisms. The total herbicide Roundup Classic is therefore very effective in combating unwanted green vegetation while having minimal negative impact on the surrounding environment. You can start new planting on treated areas as early as the next day, but it is better to wait approximately 7 days to allow Roundup time to penetrate the entire plant and destroy it completely, after which you can dig the destroyed plants into the soil without worry.

Children and pets can be allowed on the sprayed area immediately after the unabsorbed spray residues have dried.

Check the Weather Forecast Before Using Roundup Total Herbicide

To ensure that Roundup Classic is truly effective and safe to use, it must be applied on a dry day when the temperature is between 12°C - 25°C. Application in cold weather or extreme heat is not recommended. It's important to wait for absolutely calm conditions before application, as wind could carry the spray to surrounding vegetation, which would also be killed.

Until completely dry, Roundup Classic must not come into contact with water (rain, dew, irrigation). Within 6 hours after application, the product could be washed off the plants, minimizing its effects. Overall, the most suitable time for applying Roundup is spring and summer, as leaves are growing and climatic conditions are most favorable.

Every Gardener Can Find a Suitable Roundup Herbicide Product

The Roundup herbicide range is very wide and can satisfy every gardener, whether you want to eliminate a few plants between paving stones on your terrace or establish a huge garden. For application on small areas, ready-to-use sprays with pre-diluted product are available. For treating large areas, liquid concentrates are used, which are diluted according to the size of the treated area.

New on the market is Roundup gel ;)

Roundup Aktiv - Liquid Concentrate

The Roundup Aktiv liquid concentrates can be used before sowing potatoes, corn, sugar beet, and sunflowers to eliminate both annual and perennial weeds. The dosage ratio is 40 - 60 ml per 2 liters of water, which is sufficient to treat 100 m² of area.

Application can be carried out a maximum of once per season. Roundup can also be used to eliminate unwanted vegetation and unwanted woody plants on non-agricultural land.

Here it can be applied repeatedly, but the maximum annual dose is 160 ml / 100 m². The recommended dosage ranges from 60 - 120 ml per 2 liters of water, which will treat 100 m² of area.

The most resistant weed is field bindweed, which must be eliminated with a solution at a concentration of 120 - 160 ml / 2 liters of water. The protective period when used around edible crops is 14 - 21 days depending on the concentration used.

The total herbicide Roundup can also be used when renovating a lawn, where the old lawn must first be destroyed and after applying Roundup, a new one is planted.

When removing an old lawn, the dose is determined according to the most resistant weed species being controlled. Spraying is carried out using standard backpack or hand sprayers. For individual weeds, the product can be applied using a brush or hand-held wick applicators. Do not use brushes with metal parts for application.

Roundup Expres - Ready-to-Use Spray

Roundup Expres products are ready to use without dilution or further modifications. They are used to control green vegetation in areas difficult to access with a mower, on paved surfaces in parking lots, and can also be applied around flower beds, under hedges and ornamental shrubs to maintain weed-free soil.

On the other hand, Roundup Expres must not be used for weed control in ornamental lawns or in greenhouses. Roundup Expres total herbicide can be used throughout the growing season. The highest effectiveness is achieved when plants have developed a sufficiently large leaf area and are growing intensively.

Warm weather and sufficient soil moisture also contribute to improved effectiveness. Conversely, Roundup Expres should not be applied in the morning when there is heavy dew or before rain. The effects may also be weakened by application to dusty or wet leaves.

Application of Roundup Expres total herbicide is very simple. The product is sprayed onto leaves and other green parts of plants. Leaves should be evenly covered with liquid, which must not drip off them. Each bottle of Roundup Expres is equipped with a cap with a rotating nozzle adjustable to three positions.

In the "stop" position, the applicator is closed, the "wide spray" position is intended for large-area application in spaces where there is no risk of affecting surrounding desirable vegetation.

Application is carried out from a distance of approximately 10 - 30 cm. The "narrow stream" position is intended for spot application or for application in places where there is a risk of splashing cultivated plants. Roundup Expres is dosed according to the weed species being controlled - for grass weeds, a dose of 15 - 30 ml / m² is used, while broad-leaved weeds are reliably controlled with a dose of 30 - 50 ml / m².

The effects of Roundup Expres begin to appear through gradual yellowing, wilting and drying of plants. Unwanted vegetation completely dries out approximately 3 weeks after application. After application, allow treated areas to dry completely, as transfer of Roundup Expres can occur even by picking up a few drops on shoes.

Roundup Klasik

The Roundup Klasik product line is designed for use on larger agricultural areas. This is reflected in the available package sizes - 5l and 20l.

The advantage of Roundup products is that they leave no residues in the soil.
