Elegant daisy flowers certainly shouldn't be missing from your garden beds. However, they also excel in pots. Daisies are commonly known as ox-eye daisies or marguerites. This is a perennial herb, 20-100 cm tall. A basal rosette of leaves grows from a horizontally or obliquely growing rhizome. The flower is a flower head, which can be single or compound. It blooms from May to October.

Many cultivars have been developed. Previously, the genus Leucanthemum was classified under the genus Chrysanthemum. The plants are suitable for cutting. The vast majority of species are frost-resistant.

Balcony marguerite is an ideal plant for planting at entrance doors, balconies, windows or terraces. The compact low shrub grows 50 to 100 cm tall. It blooms almost all year round, especially when faded flowers and withering leaves are removed in time. It can be grown as a shrub or small tree.

How to Grow Daisies

• They require a sunny or partially shaded location. The soil should be constantly slightly moist. For winter, it's advisable to cover the bed with conifer branches and divide and replant the plants every second or third year.

• Sow seeds directly in the location in April to May. Plant the germinated plants according to the given variety, spacing them 20 x 30 cm apart.

• The soil should be loamy, slightly moist and, most importantly, supplied with lime and nutrients.

• If there isn't enough lime in the soil, it's important to work lime into the soil every year. Plants can be fertilized in spring with well-matured compost. It's possible to apply complete NPK fertilizer every 14 days - Cererit, Kristalon which is water-soluble.

• Plants may be attacked by aphids. Use suitable protective products, e.g. Mospilan.
