Elegant daisy flowers should definitely not be missing from your flower beds. They also excel in containers. Daisies are colloquially called marguerites or Shasta daisies. This is a perennial plant, 20-100 cm tall. A basal rosette of leaves grows from a horizontal or oblique rhizome. The flower is an inflorescence that can be single or double. It blooms from May to October.
Many cultivars have been bred. Previously, the genus Leucanthemum was classified under the genus Chrysanthemum. The plants are suitable for cutting. The vast majority of species are frost-resistant.
The large-flowered daisy is a plant native to the Pyrenees. The plants are taller, growing 50 to 100 cm. The flowers are large, over 10 cm wide, white with a yellow disc. The flowering period is later, blooming approximately from July.
They require a sunny or partially shaded location. The soil should be constantly slightly moist. For winter, it is advisable to cover the bed with conifer branches and divide and replant the plants every second or third year.
Sow seeds directly at the site in April to May. Plant the germinated plants according to the variety at a spacing of 20 x 30 cm.
The soil should be loamy, slightly moist and above all supplied with lime and nutrients.
If there is not enough lime in the soil, it is important to work lime into the soil every year. We can fertilize the plants in spring with well-matured compost. It is possible to apply complete NPK fertilizer every 14 days - Cererit, Kristalon which is water-soluble.
Plants may be attacked by aphids. Use appropriate protective products, such as Mospilan.
