Elegant daisy flowers should definitely not be missing from flower beds. They also stand out beautifully in pots. Commonly, daisies are called painted daisies or pyrethrum. It is a perennial herb, 20-100 cm tall. A basal rosette of leaves grows from a horizontally or obliquely growing rhizome. The flower is a flower head, which can be single or double. It blooms from May to October.

Many cultivars have been bred. Previously, the genus Leucanthemum was classified under the genus Chrysanthemum. The plants are suitable for cutting. The vast majority of species are frost-hardy.

Painted daisy is a plant originating from mountain meadows in the Caucasus. It grows 40-80 cm tall. It flowers from June to August. The flowers of garden varieties display all colours from white through pink, carmine to garnet red.

How to Grow Daisies

• They require a sunny or partially shaded location. The soil should be constantly slightly moist. In winter, it is advisable to cover the bed with conifer branches and divide and replant the plants every second or third year.

• Sow seeds directly in the location from April to May. Plant the germinated seedlings according to the given variety at a spacing of 20 x 30 cm.

• The soil should be loamy, slightly moist and especially enriched with lime and nutrients.

• If there is not enough lime in the soil, it is important to work lime into the soil every year. Plants can be fertilized in spring with well-matured compost. It is also possible to apply complete NPK fertilizer every 14 days - Cererit, Kristalon which is water-soluble.

• Plants may be attacked by aphids. Use suitable protective products, e.g. Mospilan.
