Red Valerian - Centranthus ruber

This is a perennial plant that originates from southern Europe. It grows to a height of 60 cm. The stems and leaves are smooth and have a blue-green tinge with a slightly fleshy texture. The flowers are pink or red in color. It blooms from May to September. The Coccineus cultivar grows to a height of around 90 cm. When in bloom, it is unmissable as it literally glows with carmine red. The plant looks beautiful in group plantings, especially in combination with grasses and other perennials.

How to Grow Red Valerian

• Requires sunny locations. Winter protection against frost and excessive moisture is recommended. Tolerates drought. Undemanding to grow. Self-seeds naturally.

• Sow seeds in March in a flower bed. Transplant to the final location in May-June.

• The plant requires well-drained, permeable soil. Rocky soil is suitable.

• The plant does not require fertilization.

• The plant does not suffer from diseases or pests.
