Lovage

Lovage is a hardy perennial herb that we grow as a culinary spice. Both the foliage and the seeds can be used.

Growing

• Sow directly at the final position in deep, moist soils.
• It tolerates partial shade.
• The seeds germinate slowly at first, so be patient.
• The plant flowers in July to August. If you are harvesting the foliage, it should not be allowed to flower.

Use

Both the foliage and the seeds are harvested and used as a spice in the kitchen. As a perennial it lasts for many years in one place, so choose a permanent position with enough space and moisture.

Lovage grows quite tall and needs plenty of space, so plant it at the edge of a bed or in a corner of the garden.
