Broadleaf rosewood is a tree that originates from South Asia, specifically from regions of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. This tree is known for its precious wood, known as rosewood or palisander, which is primarily used for furniture making, musical instruments, carved products and various decorative items. The wood of Dalbergia latifolia is characterized by a pink to dark brown heartwood with distinctive grain patterns, which gives it an attractive and luxurious appearance. The precious wood of broadleaf rosewood has led to excessive logging and endangerment of this species. Today, this tree is protected by international agreements and is listed on the Red List of Threatened Species.

Broadleaf rosewood typically grows to a height of 15 to 25 meters, but can sometimes be taller. Its leaves are alternate, irregularly pinnate and have a characteristic glossy green appearance. It produces small white to light yellow flowers arranged in inflorescences resembling grape-like clusters. After flowering, brown to black pods containing seeds appear. The most valued part is the wood, which has a pink to dark brown color with distinctive reddish-brown grain patterns that create beautiful designs. Today it is protected by international agreements, and to ensure its conservation, it is important to promote sustainable management practices for this precious tree, so that its occurrence is preserved for future generations.

1. Stratification: many Dalbergia species require stratification, which is a process mimicking natural conditions to promote seed germination. For this step, it is recommended to place the seeds for several weeks in a moist environment at a temperature of approximately 4-10 °C. This can be achieved, for example, in a refrigerator.
2. Sowing seeds: after stratification, prepare small pots or containers filled with suitable well-draining soil. Gently level the top layer of soil and then place the seeds on it. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil.
3. Maintaining moisture: keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Spray water gently and evenly using a spray bottle.
4. Place the plant in a warm and bright location: after germination, move the pots to a warm and bright location with plenty of indirect sunlight.
5. Seedling care: when growing seedlings, pay attention to proper watering and fertilizing, and avoid overwatering or flooding.
6. Transplanting: once the plant reaches sufficient height, you can transplant it to a permanent outdoor location, if the climate is warm enough and the plant can tolerate outdoor conditions. Keep in mind that Dalbergia latifolia is sensitive to cold, so protect it from frost.
