Mospilan is a systemically active insecticide supplied in the form of water-soluble powder. Mospilan was developed to control a wide spectrum of animal pests on plants. Thanks to the active ingredient acetamiprid, which is contained in Mospilan in a 20% concentration, it reliably eliminates Colorado potato beetles, aphids, woolly apple aphids, codling moths, whiteflies and other sucking and chewing insects. Acetamiprid is a systemically highly effective insecticide that acts on pests as a neurotoxicant. Even at very low doses, it acts as a contact and stomach poison for pests. Mospilan is characterized by rapid initial action and long residual balanced effect against all developmental stages of pests. The pests for which the systemic insecticide Mospilan is most commonly used, together with recommended dosage and pre-harvest interval, are listed in the following table. The pre-harvest interval is the time that must be observed between the last treatment and harvest.

Main uses of Mospilan, dosage and recommended pre-harvest interval

plant pest dosage PHI application
potato Colorado potato beetle 0.6g per 4-6 l water 7 days max. 1x per season
pome fruits woolly aphid, aphids 1.3 g per 10 l water 28 days max. 1x per season
apple tree codling moth 2.5 g per 10 l water 14 days max. 1x per season
ornamental plants whiteflies, aphids 4g per 10 l water 3 days max. 1x per season
cucumber, tomato, pepper* aphids 2 g per 10 l water 3 days max. 2x per season

* for plants grown in greenhouse

To achieve maximum effectiveness, it is important to carry out the spray at the right time. For potatoes, the application time is very flexible, it can be carried out between the 1st and 3rd larval instar. The absolute biological effectiveness of the product is then guaranteed for 3 weeks after spraying. Up to 6 weeks after application, the overall biological effectiveness of Mospilan persists. When controlling codling moth on apple trees, the application time depends on monitoring signals. The recommended amount of mixed spray is 10 l per 100 m² of area.

Minor Uses of Mospilan

The Mospilan product can also be used to control San Jose scale on stone fruit. The spray must be applied during the period of mass nymph crawling, but no more than once per season. The product is approved for controlling plum curculio on cherries, sour cherries, and plums using the systemic insecticide Mospilan. Application is carried out according to monitoring signals, with the latest timing being the beginning of fruit development. Application can be repeated twice per season. On cherries and sour cherries, blossom weevil and cherry fruit fly also cause damage, which Mospilan can easily handle as well. Control is carried out according to monitoring signals, maximum once per season. The recommended dosage for stone fruit is 2.5 g per 3-10 liters of water. This amount of mixed spray solution should be sufficient for approximately 100 m² of area. The pre-harvest interval for stone fruit has been set at 14 days.

Preparing the Spray Solution from Mospilan 20 SP

Before application, the Mospilan product must be prepared as a solution. The measured amount of Mospilan is mixed with a small amount of water. The resulting liquid is then poured into a sprayer filled to approximately half with water. After mixing, the sprayer is topped up with water to the specified volume. When spraying potatoes, Mospilan can be mixed without problems with fungicides against potato blight. No species or varietal sensitivity to Mospilan has been detected so far, however, before treatment it is recommended to verify sensitivity on a few individuals of the given plant variety. For application on ornamental plants, a pre-mixed solution supplied in a bottle with a mechanical sprayer can be used - Mospilan 500 ml product.

Follow Safety Precautions During Application

Spraying should be carried out in absolutely calm conditions, to avoid endangering other people. In case of stronger wind, spraying must be done downwind from the sprayer and other people. Mospilan 20 can also be used for application in enclosed spaces (greenhouses). After finishing work, it is necessary to leave enclosed spaces as quickly as possible. Work with Mospilan should not exceed 30 minutes during one day. A longer period may pose a health risk. When handling Mospilan 20 and during application, it is recommended to wear rubber or plastic gloves and protective work clothing or a waterproof coat with hood. Protect your feet with work shoes or rubber boots. During work until removing protective clothing and thoroughly washing hands with soap and warm water, eating, drinking and smoking is prohibited. For safety reasons, it is advisable to wash work clothing before next use.

First Aid in Case of Exposure to Mospilan 20

In case of accidental ingestion, rinse your mouth with water and seek medical attention. Do not induce vomiting if Mospilan has been ingested! If the product comes into contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with running water. If symptoms of irritation, redness or burning occur, seek medical attention. Wash affected skin with soap and warm water. If aerosol is inhaled, it is important to move to fresh air as quickly as possible and remain physically and mentally calm. How to Store Mospilan Safely?

How to Safely Dispose of Mospilan Residues and Packaging?

Mospilan packaging must not be reused. Used packaging must be disposed of as hazardous waste, preferably by depositing the containers at designated collection points. Spray solution residues must not come into contact with water, as they could contaminate it and cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. The product is harmful to aquatic organisms. Residues of the spray solution and rinsing water must therefore be diluted at a ratio of 1:5 and sprayed completely on the previously treated area.

Always read the package leaflet carefully before application and follow the instructions provided!!!
