February is the perfect time not only for sowing, but also for planning your planting. And planning your planting also means creating a list of plants to sow! Here are a few tips on what you should definitely try this year!

Planting in the garden and planning it is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable parts of garden care. Observing and shaping nature around you awakens gardening enthusiasm in many people. But do you know what not to forget when planning your planting?

Perfect Composition

Every plant is unique. When selecting plants not only for beds but also for containers, it's advisable to focus not only on flower colour but to evaluate the plant as a whole. When choosing plants, observe their texture, colour and leaf shape, and their surface. It's important to focus on the plant's growth habit and its compactness. Combine all shades, don't focus on just one shade. You'll achieve beautiful combinations by repeating colours.

Ornamental and Useful

Don't be afraid to combine ornamental plants and herbs in containers. You can try combining annuals with, for example, lettuce, which can be found in various shades of green, up to dark red. These unconventional combinations not only attract attention but you'll especially appreciate them on a terrace or balcony.

Specimen Plants

In larger perennial beds, definitely don't forget about shrubs and small trees. They complete the composition. A brilliant move is to choose evergreens, which are a static element even in winter, and you won't have to collect leaves after them in autumn. Again, don't forget about textures! Especially the colour of bark or leaf size can be very interesting details.

Plan!

Before you start selecting plants, draw up a planting plan. Place plants according to their requirements and exposure. Remember that larger plants should be placed at the back or in the centre – depending on the bed's position. Determine planting spacing based on knowledge of plant height and width. Thanks to spacing, you can also easily calculate how many plants will be needed. Don't be afraid of repetition. Repeating plants in the planting will give the bed a natural character.

Don't be afraid to let your imagination run wild and create something phenomenal! Good luck and happy growing!
